Insurance Lawyers

Insurance lawyers are attorneys that specialize in different kinds of insurance, and the legal enforcement of insurance policies. An insurance lawyer's daily job includes working with legal staff to track the progression of cases, doing current casework, and keeping up with changes in insurance law. The most common kinds of insurance are home, auto, health and life insurance. Good insurance lawyers are good at managing their time, gathering and decoding information, and communicating the facts of the case in a court of law.

Case mitigation and investigation frequently go hand-in-hand. Insurance lawyers work with their staff to get the facts of the case and present them to the court. Insurance cases are hard to prove, so the burden of proof is much higher and gathering that proof takes additional time and manpower. In addition to their work in court, insurance lawyers often supervise the writing of new policies. The lawyer verifies that each policy is legal and removes any loopholes there may be. As laws change, insurance lawyers often need continuing education through courses and seminars in order to keep current. However, continuing education is not required in all areas.

The list of laws, policies and companies under which insurance lawyers work is very long. Each different kind of insurance requires specific knowledge and legal support in order to win cases, and insurance lawyers can work for both defendants and victims.
